Windows, Insulation and Passive House Components
Over the next ten to twenty years Passive House Standard will drive changes in the construction world in the same fashion as LEED did the past ten years. Windows, insulation and air sealing are some of the key components of a Passive House retrofit on new construction.
Air leaks around and through windows can't be part of of an energy efficient home. Don't simply look for good R-value or U-value. Degradation of foam insulation panels, and poor weather barrier strategies will compromise the air seal of these tight buildings.
A proper building envelope is required for modern building "green" or not.
Intus leads the industry in effective and low cost solutions for super efficient triple glazed windows. We have a U-PVC option that is price competitive with standard double glazed options. These windows are also very well sealed, both the frame and argon chamber using innovative assembly technology. Cork's thermal insulation qualities are overlooked in the building world. Well known as flooring, underlayment and industrial gaskets, we are re-introducting expanded cork insulation to the United States after a long absence imposed by fiberglass. We stock insulating panels in a variety of thickness with straight edges and shiplap, all 500mm x 1000mm or 3.28' x 1.64'. They are a joy to install and lend themselves to all sorts of applications and fasteners. We also stock and sell a facade grade panel for use as exterior cladding. These panels have NO adhesive. They are 100% cork. Learn more about Cork Insulation from Thermacork »
