Bildau & Bussmann Aluminum-Clad Wood Options
On this page we introduce all the profile variations, inner and outer, for the wood aluminum-clad windows we produce in thicknesses of 68 mm (2 3/4″) , 79 mm (3 1/8″) and 90 mm (3 5/8″).
Limitations on sizes are determined by glass sizes available, solar coatings, and the inter-layer in the case of laminated glass. With insulated units we can make your windows and doors up to 2700 mm (8′-10″) X 5000 mm (16′-5″), when using tempered glazing: windows 3200 mm (10′-6″) X 6000 mm (19′-8″) can be built, and by utilizing laminated glass: windows 2800 mm (9′-2″) X 6000 mm (19′-8″) are possible!
Inner Sash Variations
Inner sash variations are offered in three different versions: A : an o-gee curve, B : a smooth curve, and C : a straight rectangular form. Each of the interior sash variations can be used with every aluminum profile system, except the Mira Classic system. This provides over 30 different profile variations to meet your specific design requirements. On request we would be pleased to send you our brochure showing all the profile variations in greater detail, both inner and outer, wood and aluminum.

We advise choosing Larch, Meranti or White Oak for wood windows without aluminum cladding. Siberian Larch wears the best, surpassing mahogany in terms of weather resistance. Any aluminum profile can be added to any species of wood.

Our wood windows & doors come in any color for no up-charge. Any RAL color of opaque paint can be used on the interior wood, exterior wood or the aluminum extrusions. There is an up-charge if the color of the interior does not match the exterior for wood window & door projects. Bildau & Bussmann coats the aluminum cladding and frames separately; Non-matched interiors/exteriors on aluminum clad options are not up-charged.
We also stain and clear coat both interior and exterior surfaces with the SIKKENs Joinery Classics system.
Bildau & Bussmann also uses the SIKKENs Cetol WF 955 system if you’d like a more custom or pastel stain. However, the SIKKENs joinery classics offer the best protection when it comes to exterior exposure.
NOTE: Colorless or lightly-pigmented glazes and stains do not off the necessary UV protection and are unsuitable for directly weathered areas. Very dark coatings also do not weather as well. The surface temperature of dark-coated wood reaches up to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, impacting the finish as well as the structural properties of the wood.
Sikkens Joinery Color Classics Collection
Bildau & Bussmann is able to use Sikkens Joinery Classic Colors on wood which include translucent stains with UV-protection. Any opaque color is also available.

We use Greentec as our base option due to their quality and their short, consistent lead times:
Although we can source triple pane glazing units from any manufacturer, our standard is an argon filled glazing units with Saint-Gobain low e glass and 12 to 18 mm Swisspacer Ultimate warm edge spacers. Our standard passive house triple-pane glazing unit is Krypton filled with 12mm spacers, reaching an incredible u-value of 0.4 W/(m2K) or 0.07 BTU/(hr ft2 F) or R-14.28.
The smaller 12mm space insulates better with Krypton gas versus an 18, or 20mm Argon filled chamber, allowing for thinner profiles, avoiding using the expensive MIRA Therm 08 Passivhaus aluminum cladding unless necessary. Our upcharge for Krypton is very modest compared to other manufacturers.
We offer double pane or single pane if needed and will insert any of the Saint-Gobain frosted glass or DECOGLASS patterns. We also source specialty laminated glass, for sound attenuation or large sizes increasing
Most of these options meet the Miami-Dade hurricane window code. We provide these hurricane impact glass windows up to 90”x120” for:
- Fixed-sash, direct-set windows
- French and entry doors (86”x120”)
- Lift & Slide doors (XOX - 220”x120”)
- French windows (78”x96”)
- Single Tilt and Turn hurricane windows (41”x96”)
For landmark passive house windows, our simulated double-hung with French operation, and all wood drip noses met the most stringent New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission requirements. We will go as far as flying a window to Germany for a study to replicate your historic windows.
