Plyboo Bamboo Products
Bamboo is one of the strongest and most renewable natural resources available today. In China and other parts of Asia it has been used for hundreds of years in both indoor, and outdoor construction. Its resilient nature has made it ideal for use in scaffolding, bridges, and other structures that require both strength, and give. Bamboo’s rapid growth rate points to its reputation as one of the most renewable materials in the world. The use of bamboo in the U.S. for construction began about 20 years ago and has become increasingly popular. One of the first importers of bamboo from China was Plyboo®, who began offering it as flooring using the typical tongue and groove design. Around a decade ago bamboo plywood began to be used in cabinetry, wall paneling, furniture, and other millwork applications.
Eco Supply has a long history with Plyboo®. As arguably one of the first companies on the East Coast to make furniture using bamboo plywood, we can speak to the myriad benefits of utilizing bamboo plywood in furniture, millwork, and construction.
We began using Plyboo® primarily for its strength and versatility. The multidirectional 3/4” three-ply with 1/8” veneer on either side of a 1/2” bamboo core is extremely strong. Plyboo® is incredibly easy to fabricate. The thick veneers make it easy to join pieces together or to mitre because you do not have to attempt to line up thin veneers.
Plyboo® is the only manufacturer of bamboo plywood that owns and manages its own forest and manufacturing facilities. This enables them to harvest the bamboo on a five year cycle, rather than a four year cycle. Because Moso bamboo continues hardening for about a five years, Plyboo® bamboo is stronger and higher quality. The bamboo is cut down with machetes and the outer layer is sliced into long, thin strips. The strips are then dried and planed to straighten them out, placed on a plywood press, and pressed with a soy-based binder.
Plyboo® bamboo plywood is the definition of a sustainable, eco-friendly material. Though LEED credit for indoor air quality only requires that there be no added urea-formaldehyde, there are over 30 other known carcinogens and formaldehydes that are acceptable in a resin binder. Plyboo® soy based binder is the only one that has no formaldehyde of any kind.
Bamboo forests sequester two times more carbon than timber forests, while yielding twice the tonnage per acre. Bamboo grows with a ribsome root structure, which enables the bamboo to grow densely and use space efficiently. The plants regenerate from the same root every five years, which eliminates erosion. No pesticides are used on bamboo and the robust plant requires no watering.
Plyboo® bamboo forests are all FSC® certified, making Plyboo® plywood arguably one of the most sustainable materials for any millwork application. Because FSC audits labor practices, we can take comfort knowing that the product is manufactured sustainably, and that the local impact and labor practices are fair and well monitored. Though we would enjoy having a regional or local source, shipping the bamboo via ocean freight is an ethical alternative. One a gallon of diesel fuel on an ocean freighter can get several hundred miles as compared to an 18 wheeler or LTL carrier with less than 10 miles per gallon. This makes foreign sourcing a slower, but more efficient means of supply.

The Reveal™ collection is a series of carved and textured bamboo panels, manufactured by Plyboo. When carved, an interplay between the face layer and revealed inner core creates a stunning visual effect. Plyboo's proprietary RealCore™ technology insures the revealed cores are consistent and that layers of bamboo material in bi-directional construction allow for stability. This artistic collection is available in 8 different patterns and color options.Get Samples
Linear Line Collection
Inspired by the depth and movement of hand loomed fabric. Made entirely of carved Plyboo bamboo panels, the vertically fluted face layer reveals a uniquely graphic inner core. These intersecting surfaces harmoniously suggests the natural, tactile quality of a woven textile that is both curious and compelling. The Linear Line collection is suitable for any interior feature, and is available in 6 architecturally inspired styles each utilizing RealCore™ Technology in varied compositions.Get Samples
Linear Sound Collection
Modern and optically fascinating, the Linear Sound series of carved acoustical panels are Plyboo’s most daring and innovative to date. As always, Smith&Fong starts by utilizing RealCore® the inherent engineered characteristics of their signature multi-layered rapidly renewable bamboo panel. By carving deeply into and through the layers of material, a complex pattern of mingling planes evokes modernism and optical movement all at once. Combine with our Plyboo QuietWall® sound absorbing material for acoustical performance, Plyboo's new Linear Sound Panels achieve a noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of .7 and can be used in any interior for its function and dynamic design potential.Get Samples

Plywood & Veneer
We offer Plyboo Edge Grain, Flat Grain and Strand in plywood and veneer. With a sleek, "sliced" look, Plyboo edge grain plywood is an architectural grade for better dimensional stability. Plyboo edge grain bamboo plywood can be cut and sanded with conventional woodworking equipment and can be glued and fastened in the same manner as with wood products. Providing the "classic bamboo plywood" look, Plyboo’s architectural grade, flat grain bamboo plywood is made from 100% rapidly renewable bamboo that can be cut and sanded using conventional woodworking equipment. PlybooStrand uses strand technology to turn 100% rapidly renewable bamboo into a beautiful yet exceptionally durable green building material.Get Samples
